Photostock 2010: The 5th Annual Northern Michigan Photographer's Gathering

A warning: we'll probably still be bragging about Crosby's goal in overtime in June.

Is it too late to restrict attendance to US citizens only?

Just kidding, even though I was rooting for Team USA it was about the best hockey game I have ever watched.

Hi all

I've already planned my trip for the summer, and this time I'm not going across the little strecth of water called the Atlantic. So I'm not coming this year.

Best regards

Birger A.

Heidi and I are likely showing up for Thursday through Saturday, hopefully arriving Wednesday night the 23rd, and traveling back to Minneapolis Sunday the 27th.

I sure hope we can make this work... Booking double room now.

Likewise, Bill! I was really sad to miss last year. One of these years I'll come to Iceland with you too.

I'm hoping/planning on heading up there as well, family matters allowing. I talked with Bill and am planning on doing the panoramic presentation again, updated a bit, along with other photos I've taken in the UP
I hope to head up to pictured rocks over night around wed that week, and am happy to point out some of the better spots I've found. I'll be dragging a few cirkut cameras along as well. I was sorry to have missed last year as well

Jamie!

It is going to be great to see you again.

For anyone not familiar, Jamie puts on a really fine presentation and I am really excitednto see his work as well. A definite must see.

I'm not going to be able to make it, not that I really thought it was going to happen anyway, because some other things came up...like us actually wanting new carpet upstairs.

Maybe next year, or maybe when the kids are older and it's easier to find someone to take them for half a week.

So I was watching Bill's facebook video about wet plating:
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=306574572741

It struck me that one of the things that wet plate portraiture takes advantage of is how the medium sort of dislocates the subject in time. Saying when a wet plate was taken is difficult. To compound this effect, Bill, Kerik, et al seem to enjoy adding props that further this effect. A sword, top hat, knight's helmet, all of these further cause the viewer to wonder when the image was created.

Soooo.... I was thinkin.... why not ask PStockers to bring a prop or two in this vein for the wet plate portraiture we all know will take place? I know bringing a prop won't guarantee your pic is taken, but it could definitely make for some interesting portrait sessions for everyone! Just an idea.

... now just where did I put my codpiece.

Looking forward to goin' I'll be there the first weekend through about mid-ish week. Anyone else out there taking the PD-Gum class with Kerik and Ike?

I'm still trying to come up with a way to get up there this year. I had such a great time last year!
