I have been asked quite a basic question which I cannot answer. What don't you get in Photoshop Elements 13, that you would get in Photoshop CS4. A friend of mine who, like me is still very much darkroom orientated, but uses my computer occasionally on which I have CS4.

He has a very basic version of Photoshop on his computer which is running on his Laptop with Windows XP His desktop computer uses Windows 8 but Photoshop is not installed there He has an earlier version of Photoshop which he has had since about 2000 and thinks a change is over due. He has is no need for anything involving video editing or graphic design in which he has no experience and does not get involved anyway. Nor does he wish to go for the 'pay as you go' latest full version of Photoshop

Any information I am sure he would be pleased to receive.

This might prove helpful: Adobe Photoshop Elements vs. Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud - Which Is Right For Me?

These are showstoppers for me:

Lack of 16-bit support in Photoshop Elements which results in loss in functionality of the Magic Wand, Selection Brush, the family of Type tools, Recompose, Cookie Cutter, Straighten, the brush based tools (Paint Brush, Eraser, Dodge, Blur, etc. and the shape based tools (Rectangle, Ellipse, Custom Shape, etc.). Many filters do not work either.

There is no support for a Channels panel or a Channel Mixer Adjustment/Enhancement

I recall it didn't let me do most edits in TIFF format. I was quite satisfied with Element as long as I stayed in JPEG.

That was the reason I moved to Photoshop CC.
