Want to Buy Photography Student Looking for Inspiration

I'm a photo student who recently discovered the beauty of Japanese photography and I'm looking to buy some Japanese photography books for Christmas after saving up all semester.
My favorites so far are Rinko Kawauchi, Daido Moriyama, Issei Suda, and Masahisa Fukase

I went to a Japanese photo exhibit at the Cleveland Art Museum years ago, and they had a lot of books by Japanese photographers for sale there. @ $200 or so apiece, I had to pass.

My copy isn't for sale but check out A Criminal Investigation by Watabe Yukichi. One of my favorite photo books.

Book "Japanese Photobooks of the 1960s and 70s" is a good book about photo books that you are looking for .

You can still purchase new copies of Moriyama In Color: Now and Never Again at reasonable prices. Ditto the recent Tokyo (which also appears to be color - I only saw the cover). Of all places, Target sells these online.

Others also available at reasonable prices include Moriyama-Shinjuki-Araki. And if you want the trademark gritty black and white Moriyama images, you want Tales of Tono: Small book, some photos appear to have been photocopied for an extra-contrasty look. Most importantly, it contains an essay by Moriyama himself.

Tokihiro Sato and Hiroshi Sugimoto are two of my favorite Japanese photographers. And books by either are available online currently. Reasonable prices- not give-aways, but still reasonable.

Go to AddALL - http://used.addall.com - and search for the photographers and/or book titles you're interested in. For example: Daido Moriyama gives you 294 hits, with prices starting at $5.50, up to $6000.
There is also a tab for "in print books" but you being a student I would assume that the used books section is more interesting.

Since you are a student, History of Japanese Photography put out by the Museum of Fine Arts Houston is a great book with really high quality reproductions and you can get it for pretty cheap. You can snag a copy of MoMA's New Japanese Photography from 1974 for just a few bucks.

Check on Abebooks.com as well for used copies. Sometimes you can get some great deals.

When you start to look for books you will soon realize that the book market is a bit manipulated. Most good books go up in price after they are out of print, but that is the effect of speculators. Drives me nuts sometimes. Basically what I am saying is if you want a book and it is new, buy it. you might never see it as cheap again.

That book darkosaric mentioned is probably my best bet as I'm looking for photographers I'm not yet familiar with. I'll have to see if my university library carries that. Also that History of Japanese Photography looks really amazing too!

Does no one have a book they are willing to part with for the right price they no longer have use for?

Have you looked yet at the books/work of Kenro Izu? Sorry, I'm not interested in selling my copies, but they are readily available on the used book market place.

I don't have any books to sell you, but wanted to suggest that your university library may be able to get you books they don't have in their collection through a process called interlibrary loan. I've used this to get access to all sorts of texts I can't find locally.
