Photography Show in Washington, DC

From November 8, 2005 through February 10, 2006 The Department of the Interior at 1849 C Street, NW, Washington, DC is displaying a large selection of photographs by David Muench, Marc Muench, Pat O'Hara, Galan Rowell, Laurence Parent, Timothy O'Sullivan, Ansel Adams, Henry Peabody and George Grant.

The exhibit is entitled "America's Beautiful National Parks, Contemporary and Historical Photographs" and is shown in the US Department of the Interior Museum. Admission is free but you will have to go through security and have a picture ID to enter the building. Hours are 8:30AM to 4:30PM, Monday through Friday, and the third Saturday of each month, 1-4PM. I'm confused. The NPS website says the show runs through September 10th. Has it been rescheduled? Extended? I don't want to go down there without a good reason.

Incidentally, another good show coming up in DC is the Nick Nixon Brown Sisters exhibit at the National Gallery of Art. It opens November 13th. 7th and Constitution.

I am in the Interior building at least once a week and saw the poster describing the show for the first time on Monday, November 7th. I went by the museum and watched as the staff was hanging the prints. The dates came right off the poster.

The museum was closed while the exhibit was being hung so I only got to see a few prints. The prints I could see through the glass doors were absolutely beautiful!! I recognized one by Marc Muench and another by Pat O'Hara. Average print size looked to be about 20x24. In my opinion it's always worth a reasonable drive to see great work so yes, come on down. Even if you don't enjoy the exhibit as much as I will there's always plenty to see here in DC - take in the new Smithsonian American Indian Museum while you're here, it's worth the trip by itself.
