A local high school student started a science project called Photography from Scratch. He wants to make a photographic image on homemade film, print on homemade paper, taken with a homemade camera.
He already styarted building his pinhole and he is very skilled. As negative material he is considering coating either 8"x10" glass or a sheet of acetate, to contact print on his homegrown paper.
I would appreciate any suggestions of formulas to coat both, the negative material and the paper, that can be made from relatively easily available chemicals. Ir doesn`t have to be silver (or Pt/Pd) based photosensitive material, as long as it involves a printable negative and a paper print.

Thanks,

Peter

Dear Peter,

There are several long threads in "Silver Gelatin Based Emulsion Making & Coating ".

There is also a method of making an emulsion on unblinkingeye.com.

Cyanotype is probably the easiest home-prepared printing process; its inexpensive and can be done very easily. As long as his negatives come out high enough contrast, its great for contact printing big negatives. Formulas for it abound on the internet.

There's a link in the articles or chemistry section here (and an article on the front page of Unblinking Eye) about making an emulsion, as found in Kodak's AJ-12 pamphlet from a long time ago.

Thanks for your ideas. I´ll post the results as soon as I have his print in my hands.
