This is a very technical book. See the table of contents. Ferdinand Hurter, PhD and Vero C. Driffield were the original photographic scientists. See the dust jacket flap that is provided. The H&D curve aka D vs. Log E and characteristic curve demonstrates their importance. Mees and Shepard earned their PhD from University of London by duplicating and expanding H&Ds groundbreaking work. The book is a wonderful summary of their work.
