We did this at one point in a small photographers' circle I'm part of. It was an interesting experience. We sent round one integral roll of 35mm film (24-36 exp) with the assignment to select one image from each roll and print it. The selection part was actually more interesting than the printing part, in my view. The printing part was also interesting though.
I can understand that. If a negative is "worry free" so-to-speak, it seems wrong to deviate from the path it set out.
But even your straight print may be significantly different from someone else's. And this could just be an exercise in printing an unknown negative. It's all for fun, anyway.
