Workshops at VCP;

Introduction to Black & White Photography II

Sunday, June 6th & Sunday June 13th, 2010. 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM on both days

This workshop is for anyone interested in learning about the basics of traditional wet darkroom photography. The VCP darkroom offers an excellent opportunity to explore the tools of old school photography. While the goal of this workshop is getting into the darkroom to make prints, the steps along the way will include instruction in the use off a 35mm camera, and the processing of film in the VCP darkroom.

Session I: Introductions, viewing samples of prints, discussion of the merits of silver based photography, covering camera basics, going out to take pictures, and film processing.
Session II: Handling, viewing and reading our negatives; setting up the wet side of the darkroom, getting acquainted with enlargers, talking about photographic papers and getting hands on experience making prints.

Using an 8 x 10 Camera Workshop
July 24th & 25th 2010

Description: Have you ever wanted to try an 8 x 10 camera, do an alternative printing method and not have large format negatives? This is your chance to do so. In this hands-on two-day workshop, students will work with an 8 x 10 camera to experience the making of large negatives and learn the advantages of the format. After learning to use the camera students will go on a field trip to work with the camera and expose film. In the darkroom, we will process these large format films and by the end of the workshop, students will produce silver contact prints from some of the negatives made during the workshop.

A discussion pertaining to using these cameras including the choice of film, choosing a camera, lenses, transportation of equipment, storage, and other important aspects.

Photographing Water Workshop

This workshop is on photographing water… Slow moving water to swift moving water. The workshop will start at VCP with a talk on photographing water with sample images of water. The fieldwork will take place in the West River Valley. From the peaceful setting of the Retreat Meadows to the swift flow of some of the feeder streams of the West River.

All formats are welcome.
