Can you create a cubist image with your camera. To make it tougher, do it in one shot!

I would imagine this could be done with multiple exposures, masking parts of the lens, prism filters, and mirrors.

On a side note, I got to see the linked facebook picture of Picasso's cubist Vollard at the Met awhile ago during a show dedicated to Vollard and the various works he collected/dealt. Pretty cool in person.

I agree that multiple exposures could work. There is nothing like the real thing and seeing a real Picasso would be a treat!

Glass Door Abstract, Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F

I use our glass front door for some interesting 'test shots' when I get a new camera -- the light comes through better around 4 pm -- here is my latest photo taken on my 'gift' ASAHI PENTAX SPOTMATIC F using my own 1970's 50mm f4 SMC Macro-Takumar and some 2005 outdated Kodak Ultra 400 film I rated at 250 ASA -- the colours are my wife's Geranium flowers !

I used to know a guy in a camera club I was in who worked in a glass factory who took amazing colour cubist images of large lumps of glass clinker he got from the bottom of the furnaces he photographed them in polarized light produced buy putting polarized gels over a couple of photographic lamps and shining the lights through the glass.

I was thinking about designing a camera that would be a Cubism-camera: it would simultaneously show various aspects of an object and possibly motion or a slight change over a small time interval.

Did a search to see if anyone had done this and found this old PDF from, of all places, Microsoft:

Hi,

interesting threat.
I made a series of quarz crystals last spring. One of them is this view through a quartz on a beech leaf. Double exposure to get some kind of cubistic look.

Mathematician's Sideboard
Gelatin-silver photograph on Ultrafine Silver Eagle VC FB photographic paper, image size 16.3cm X 21.5cm, from a Kodak Tmax 400 120 format negative exposed in a Mamiya RB67 single lens reflex camera fitted with a 127mm f3.8 lens.
Maybe there's a hint of the cubist ideal here.

One of the best examples I have seen of photographic inspired cubism is the following from Picasso and remember this is before photoshop. He made the following three photographs of a reservoir in Spain. Note that he has taken these from different heights and perspectives:-

From these three photographs he produced this painting:-

A photographic artist today could do a similar thing on photoshop, or with enough patience and ability, with darkroom manipulation.

Cool have you designed it yet? Although Im not entirely sure what you mean, sounds interesting.

I've had a few ideas, but no design. I do know one person, who is both an engineer and an artist, who makes pinhole cameras - I am hoping his artistic talents will eventually lead the way to such a camera - even if it is a primitive first step.

Interesting, thinking there are possibilities of both in camera and darkroom processing......need to think about it.
Not cubism, but maybe able to utilize to make so.
