Hello all,

We're a Dutch photographers duo. We have been shooting film for about five years now, we started of with 35mm, then added some 120 and now we're getting confident enough to start experimenting with our Russian 5x7 field camera. As we are into conceptual photography we tend to take a lot of time setting up our images. We enjoy developing and printing our own photos and working with light sensitive emulsions to print on a variety of materials (mostly wood, but we're working on some other materials as well).
We're here to learn more about the technical aspects of analogue photography and to get inspired to explore all the possibilities it has to offer.

All the best!

Bedankt voor het compliment AgX!

Here's a small selection. We should digitalise some of our recent work, but it's becoming less and less interesting to see the digital images when you've got the actual prints at home.

A 35mm favourite, I think this is a digital scan, but we did make a few prints of this one and we're planning on printing it on a stone slab of 60x40cm

Silver gelatin emulsion on slice of wood (about 12cm wide).

Photo printed on a small glass bottle (we're going to do a larger one of this for November exhibition)

A recent experiment. Contact print from an old Russian glass plate negative (5x7).

I found nordic people thinks about devilish things too much , I am at APUG for 10 years and I am bored with national park photography.
I think there is strong education on philosophy and phsychology at there and people thinks about other people . You have thousands of designers , thinkers who plays a role as a prophet to solve world problems and ends as a chair designer for 6000 euros each. Hah ! Millions of books , art education , university education , classical music , sculpture production , thousands of things never changed anything on this world.
Only it ends with your indonesian ethnographic visits and photographing poor people and children and donating food bank 10 euros each year.

I dont give a dime to europe , they are living in a dream.

My post is not attack to OP but what I have found at europe.

All european inventions , chemical production , energy production been made without enviromental concerns and now its too late for everything.

Welcome to Apug. Nice to see some locals here^^

Had a look at your works. Which are really great! I especially liked the photos on your other website www.lesdiables.nl.

Thanks! We started as Les Diables five years ago and have been working as De Lichtdichter for about three years now focusing on the more traditional techniques and printing our own work. As Les Diables we worked a bit more conceptual or "artistic". At the moment we're trying to bring the two closer together, so the techniques we use as De Lichtdichter with the more elaborate concepts of Les Diables. It's a very exciting development .

I'm not sure how your post is related to us introducing ourselves, but it could make for an interesting discussion.
Could you elaborate a bit more, trying to relate it to photography, so maybe say something about the differences between European and Non-European photography?

I see. Sounds like a nice journey. I think you will find that applying older techniques to your already somewhat "pictorialistic" work will have a nice influence. For the past 1.5 year ive been really focusing on alternative processes like carbon printing, gum bichromates and cyanotypes. And it just keeps amazing me what kind of results it sometimes delivers. Especially when you start combining it with digital photography trough digital negatives and such.

An interesting journey indeed

I found european modern art, modern money, modern industry and ideas are product of america , they grabbed everything in europe and than controlled it. Europe is like middle ages europe which managed by popes and their religion and new europe worships to dc and its religion. You listen elvis , everybody listens elvis and all profits goes to american money market.

I thinked and hoped internet changes something , no , I dived in to art and science and all I found impossible to replicate technologies , impossible to calculate science and few useless softwares and technology for next century like space stations at mars , fusion , quantum computers and etc.

All dreams ended for the internet world. But whatever useful I have ever found is from russian sites , books and articles for example. I think religions lives long and americans would keep , protect their religion whatever it costs. I believe slavery been put again but people dont know about themselves.

I think your devil pictures are product as above. You aesthetize the horrible things.

"devil pictures"

Do not overlook that hints at devil are part of European culture from long before US influence. I see such at old architecture for instance in my daily life.

Welcome to APUG! I had a look at your images and they're great - you're very creative! I love more conceptual work although I really don't have the ideas to photograph. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Had a look at you Flickr gallery, nice work. I like the alternative processes, always find it inspiring to see people using different techniques.
For us it's often a question of restraining ourselves and not get carried away too much with the techniques and focus on the end result. But it's always good to learn new techniques and to perfect the ones you're familiar with.

Thanks, we'll try to keep posting more recent work (we're working on some interesting projects at the moment!).

There's creativity in the strangest places. You could try gathering some photos you like and analyse the different elements that attracted you to them, then hussle those elements around to create something new. Or maybe find a text or poem that you like and see what images you come up with while reading it. There's lots of ways
