Fox Talbot's prints could only be stabilzed in sodium chloride solution, not permanently fixed ,as with thiosulfite, but he liked the color of them. I used the above linked process and "fixed" the prints by taking digital photographs of them.
A high contrast digital negative was made.
First, I found that allowing the silver nitrate coated paper to be kept overnight in the warm drying cupboard made it go dark so it was removed and kept in the dark after it was dry.Second, it was important not to overexpose the coated paper under the negative for too long or it again went dark. Third,fixing in 50% saturated salt solution for 3 min was about right, too long and the print went orange.
The eventual resulting print was low contrast and a rather weak lavender color, not as good as some of Fox Talbot's I have seen.Attached is a small file after elementary adjustments in photoshop.
A bit of a curiosity but produces a result not easy to make by other means, I wonder what is the opinion of it.
