Photo Shop CS3

I just read a post on Photo Net that mentioned that Adobe will announce CS3 at Macworld in Jan.

A public beta is available for registered Adobe users (non-Acrobat). SN is required for download. Looks like a few promising features (such as non-destructive filters) and layer alignment.

Apparently this trial version will only be available for current CS2 users working on a MAC. So that leaves me out on both counts.

Windows users are welcome, but you are correct that you need certain existing Adobe software to qualify. Here is the download page:

Would Run on W2K

Would not install on my Windows 2000 machine. Worked fine on the XP machine though. Very slow on my XP machine, but then again it's three years old

Win2K is in its "extended" support stage. There will be no more product updates, minimal security updates, and no one is bothering to write program api's for it anymore. As the transition makes its way to Vista, don't expect anything written with Vista in mind to run on W2K, 98, or ME....

Anymore, more than 2 years between hardware upgrades, specifically in the memory category is the spoiler for running the latest apps. They will run sure, but not optimized...

So I downloaded cs3 and have been using it for a couple days. My initial thoughts are:
1) And a long over due no 1 is the inclusion of the histogram with the curve tool.
3) you can nolonger flop the curve tool light to dark from dark to light as you have been able for as long as I can remember.
4) A slightly improved interface which is mostly cosmetic, but nice
5) The palettes capabilities are somewhat similar to CorelDraw’s which makes it somewhat similar to Macromedia's tool layout.

Adobe now has 3 gui's (4 if you count lightroom, 5 if you count Acrobat); macromedia's(can't blame them there); Premiere/after effects/encore (and these 3 have differences); CS3 (I am assuming that the Creative suite as a whole will follow suit); and CS2 (Illustrator, inDesign, etc...). I suspect or hope they bring the web tools / macromedia's gui in line with CS3. Their Video tools are fairly new so one would expect that these apps are not going to have the same gui.

It doesn’t make any sense to me why they would not build a single gui.

Finally and most annoying is the continued lack of some context items such as Cut, Copy, paste delete available at all times.

I used Bridge for a few minutes it seems to have gone backward.

I haven’t looked too deep into the app so I can’t really say what is new regarding functionality.

In the Curves dialogue box, if you select <Show Amount of Pigment/Ink %> rather than <Show Amount of Light (0-255)> it has the same effect.

I finally installed the CS3 beta today and started giving a test run. Definately like the way the menu panels operate and now give increased controls without having to go into a sub-menu. Still, I cannot quite understand why they have never connected the delete key with the selected history action....

Things are actually beginning to look quite different, as the new monitors are now calibrated to the Adobe RGB. Although there is no listed expiration date on the beta, I am beginning to suspect that this is another successful "take the puppy home and see" ruse...

CS3 Greater Memory Access?

Can anyone tell if CS3 allows accessing greater than 2GB of RAM in a Windows 32bit OS environment?
