Well, I rushed off and purchased a set of very nice Photo-Plait 9x12 cm plate holders on Ebay, hoping that they would fit my AVUS, but they do not. They are too wide and the bottom of the holders are square and without the lip.
For future reference:

4.7mm thick
0.6mm thick lip
Square bottom, lip terminates at bottom of holder. It is an open channel, but does not "turn the corner".
I'll either have to trade these for Voigtlander holders or buy a Photo-Plait camera!
