Hi.

I bought a 50x70cm plastic frame and in it I made a mosaic with my middle format contact prints.

I got this week free and I was planning on visit galleries and maybe auction houses to see if I get luck. But then I thought that I have tried a lot of galleries with no success.

Then I had this idea about instead spend time trying to put my pics on somebody wall, I could just take my contact prints mosaic and stand it on a tripod in a busy commercial street. Have my show right there, no doors, no hide my pics in boxes until find a place to exhibit it.

Of course that there is nothing like galleries collectors and name. And in the street it would be very random people look at it but still better than nothing.

Because of the law I would not sell them (at least not as purpose to have my prints being there in the street). But only showing and who knows making contacts. Contacts with people who eventually could become a buyer, contact with people who could be interested on join me on project as photographer, model, painter, writer, and so on.

Does it sound stupid, waits of time again, or you think could be an interesting idea worth trying?

As far as I know it is not illegal stand in the street to exhibit you art. It is basic what street performances does. Right?

Hi
I think its a nice idea. Just do it. I think if police shows up and you explain friendly what you are doing that in the worst case they tell you to pack your things. I guess quite a few people will stop and chat with you. I would take my camera with me because these days people are quite curious about the old cameras
Good luck

Do'nt know what Hamburg law is, but taking up space on a side walk has always be frowned upon over here in So. California. An it would be hard to convince any policeman that you are not selling, just showing. A lot of street performers have a tip Jar (donation can).

You should look into local flea markets. For a small fee, you can exhibit and sell your work. Hamburg seems to have a few:

Click on the Weekly Markets. They are a good way to begin selling your work. I did one, in Washington DC for about two years. I treated it like having a store- I was there every weekend (weather permitting), with a small display. I had framed work on a display panel, and matted/bagged prints on a table. Sales started slowly but, after a few weeks, they started to sell. After a few months, I was making good money each weekend.

I will be in two of them next weekend. But it is only possible because I have one week holyday. Normally I work weekends and late night. Meaning that even when I am free Sundays I am usually too tired from work to wake up early.

I did this mosiac to bring to the street market next weekend actually.
