As the supply diminishes, the rarity and value of vintage photos expands. Learn the value of an old family portrait or photograph you may have discovered during a photo evaluation and silent auction at the Gebert Contemporary Gallery in Scottsdale on Sunday, October 16th from noon to 5:00pm. The event benefits and is hosted by InFocus, the photography support organization of Phoenix Art Museum.
Until relatively recently, much of the monetary value of old photos has been overlooked. They are often regarded as trite, and commonplace. Nothing could be further from the truth according to Terry Etherton, of the Etherton Gallery in Tucson, and Jeremy Rowe, Arizona State University Emeritus Professor and expert on historic and unusual photographs. Etherton and Rowe will be on site to provide professional identification and evaluation of your treasures.
In addition, items in a silent auction will include 50, well-known local and national collector photographs including works by Barbara Bosworth, Linda Connor, Mark Klett, Chris McCaw, Alex, and Robert Weingarten, selected by Dr. Rebecca Senf, Norton Family Curator of Photography at Phoenix Art Museum.
Refreshments will be served and admission is free. However, reservations and a fee of $30 payable in advance are required for evaluations only and includes up to five photographs or albums. To schedule an evaluation time, email Ed Mertz at e.mertz@cox.net. Include your phone and email contact information, the number of items youll be bringing and a brief description of each such as age, format, subject, photographer, etc. For more information, call the InFocus contact line at (602) 307-2079.
