Hi everyone! First post on here and already asking for help: yesterday I got a load of dark room gear for free and on top of a Photax Paragon enlarger I’ll have to figure out (but that should be ok), I was given a Philips PDT 021 timer I have no idea how to use.

There was one thread on here about it but it dates back to 2011 and got no reply.
I’ve found the one about the 022 with the user manual but the two models don’t look alike at all (021 has 2 different dials instead of 1 for the 022).
So would anyone have a user manual or any knowledge to share with me? It would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Finding a manual for any timer can be so frustrating and I sympathise. There is such a timer on e-bay right now with a manual in the U.K. I'd contact the seller and ask if he'd be prepared to copy it and send either a hard copy or pdf to you for a reasonable fee. The possible alternative is Oldtimer Cameras but they will likely charge more and they may cover only cameras and accessories such as flash units anyway

A long shot is Butkus but again I don't know if he covers things such as timers

Best of luck

Green button=timer
White button=meter; it is a null meter

The scale on the black dial yields the paper gradation from extra-hard to extra-soft.

Your sample got the the designations in Dutch from extra-haard to extra-zacht.

It seems though that the manual for the PDT 022 may be helpful nonetheless.

Thank you! I found one on eBay but in the US (the one I found in the UK was already sold). Haven’t got a reply yet!

Yes thank you, I figured out as much by myself. I was more intrigued by how to use the light meter and which dial was for what.

Thank you, that’s quite helpful! And it also means I won’t need to worry about that for now as I keep things simple and do not use multi grade paper. I might take a look at the p22 manual again nevertheless!

Hey. I got this timer with my first enlarger. Please tell me how it works. Do you have instructions? It's very different from 022. I can't figure out what the left switch is for.

At my sample:

Timer
-) the plain scale gives too short exposures, with a non-linear deviation
-) the x10 switch yields a much lesser factor (based on the already erroneous results in plain mode)

Metering:
-) Does not work properly, or at least I cannot make it work the right way...

I assume one first meters the lightest patches on the baseboard still to show detail.
For this the right dial is twisted until the needle is at center again.
Then one reads the exposure time at the right dial.
This value is set at left outer scale (I guess the right dial twisted back to zero).
In this stand one meters for the darkest patches still to show detail by twisting the left inner knob.
Then the necessary paper grade can be read at the inner scale.

This model works with a set paper sensitivity. The successor model already has a sensitivity adjustment (+/- 3 markings , -1stop,+1/2stop)
