Philips Darkroom Test Strip Printer PVB100

Via e-bay I have become the proud owner of the above. The seller doesn't have the instructions but has pointed out that the London Camera Exchange sells the instructions for it. It is 4 pages for almost £8. At that price I wouldn't like to buy "War and Peace"

I hadn't even considered that I would need any instructions but at 4 pages worth I have now begun to wonder whether there aren't things it does which aren't obvious. Put a test strip in and lifting each of the covers at different exposures hardly seems to be worth 4 pages:confused:

So anyone have any experience of this particular test strip printer who can say what it does that isn't the same as, say, a Paterson test strip printer and even better, does anyone have a copy of the instructions that he/she can copy and e-mail.

The more I think about it the more I am intrigued by what there is about this particular test strip printer that can occupy 4 pages of instructions.

I don't have a manual, but I found the following description of the device in question. I never thought the English language could be molded into something so concise and highly informative . It's a real gem of a sentence.

"A multiprint easel, comprising a photographic paper supporting base, provided with a raised rear edge, and slots extending parallely in and perpendicularly adjacent to a side of the base, within which spring loaded holding tabs are movably accommodated, which, together with upwardly projecting stationary tabs disposed at a base side oppositely thereto, are intended for insertion and holding of the paper on the base; a frame, mountable over the base, and panels accommodated, respectively, horizontally and vertically slidable therein, causing an opening to appear between the panels however they are manipulated on the frame; an insert placeable within and covering the opening of the frame."

Sounds like a lawyers description for a patent application! Seems like a lot of work for just laying down a small piece of paper and putting your hand or a card over part of it. Just IMHO

Or a very clumsy translation from German into English by someone who's not a native/fluent English speaker.

Did you ever get into the possession of the manual for this test strip printer? I was given this printer very recently by someone who cleared out his (old) darkroom and would be very much obliged if someone could send me a copy or indicate a link where I could find such a manual. I attach a photo of the printer. (Philips PVB 100)

Was an instruction leaflet / PDF ever found? Be good to see a copy here or in the forum somewhere if there is such a place for things like this?

My impression to.

This looks suspiciously like a home built plan in Beyond Monochrome.

Maybe suspiciously is the wrong word. Is it possible to move the test strip underneath between exposures? This would give you the ‘same’ strip for each exposure.
