I mixed up a fresh 10g bottle into 100ml (end volume) of glycol. It went into a bit of a sludge. Is this normal?

Do I need to let it sit for a bit? Keep stirring it? Warm it up? All the above? Is it possible that it is saturated and needs more glycol?

Thats a 10% solution and you'd have to use a mighty small amount for most developers at that concentration. I use 2%, 2g/100ml. You could dilute it with 400 ml more to get a 2% solution, if my math brain is working this late at night.

Yea, that was a thought.... I have never done this one before. It makes sense.

I have made up a simiar solution in alcohol in the past, and there was always a need to stir it to get it back to a homogeneous state to be sure that a 10% strength was drawn off.

I added the 400ml and my problem went away. It's the PF stuff. The MSDS says it's 1-Phenyl-3-pyrazolidone at %97. Maybe that %3 made a difference?

My phenidone solution in glycol is 4%, and if I remember correctly that's getting fairly close to what the CRC suggests saturation would be. Since dilution fixed your problem, I think you just went beyond the saturation point.

I wonder if it would be safe to port the other 10g bottle I have. That would give me %4. I did buy too much at one time, but why waste it?

You might as well leave the other bottle of Phenidone alone for now as 10 g of Phenidone will likely serve you for a long, long time. Whether you want 1% or 5% Phenidone depends a lot on what kind of developers you want to mix at some point in future. For Mark Overton's Ascorbate devs 1% is plenty, while if you want to mix POTA, even 5% will appear quite dilute ...
