Can I use Triethanalomine as the carrier in a percent solution of Phenidone @1% and how well will it keep? Is it possible to use 99% Isopropol alcohol in place of the Triethenalomine and how well would this solution keep in comparison? I'm getting tired of weighing such small amounts of Phenodine when I make DS10.

Hi Denise,
I keep phenidone and dimezone s solutions held in pure methyl alcohol and have had no problems. I used to dissolve itnin the alcohol right before mixing developer but finally decided keeping solution might be easier. I also have done it in Tea which worked too. There are threads here about this..Cheers, Evan Clarke
Hello,
you can take glycol (ethyleneglycol = monoethyleneglycol) or better propyleneglycol (1,2-propanediol) instead of methanol. Propyleneglycol is not as toxic and not as volatile as methanol (it is considered by the FDA for food applications as GRAS = Generally Recognized As Safe). Both glycols are easily water soluble and miscible with triethanolamine too.
I would not use TEA to make a percentage solution of phenidone since the alkalinity of this solvent would hasten the decomposition of this developing agent.
Alcohols appear to be the best choice since phenidone is readily soluble in them. Isopropyl alcohol is a better choice than methyl alcohol since it has a much lower evaporation rate. Isopropyl alcohol 99% is readily available and better than the rubbing alcohol version.
If you know someone who takes insulin a standard syringe holds 3/10 of a ml and is calibrated in 1/100 ml divisions. Perfect for measuring small amounts of a soluution accurately.
Hello,
an additional info: 1 g Phenidone is soluble in 20 ml of propyleneglycol at about 60° C. If you take more Phenidone, you'll get crystals after cooling.
