Petri Color 35 meter DEAD?

I just picked up a cosmetically very nice Petri Color 35 in the original case. Obviously not mistreated. The shutter and aperture work fine. The battery chamber is clean, but the meter is unresponsive. The needle stays at the bottom whether I'm in the battery check mode or just normal mode pointing at a scene and adjusting shutter, f-stop, or ASA. I've tested and tried different batteries with no luck. I've cleaned the already clean contacts.

What would you try next?????

The manual says you need to operate the film advance to use the meter or check the battery. I don't think there needs to be a film loaded; just wind the lever.

Thanks. I only tried it with the shutter cocked, and the lens extended. I have the manual. Zip -- even when I set it for "battery check" and press the button.

Pretty much all else requires disassembling the camera. Once it's accessible, I'd start by checking that the galvanometer was functional.

It's not worth me trying to do surgery on it with the slim chance I can fix it -- and a better chance of making things worse! Everything else works, and I'm sure I can recoup my cost.
