It's a sturdy camera, reasonably well built and very basic.

Overall, I would rate it an 8.5 out of 10.

It's prone to the same issues that any camera from that era faces and probably could benefit from routine service of the shutter, cleaning and lubrication of the lens helical and cleaning and readjustment (if needed) of the rangefinder system.

I just picked up a nice example of this camera yesterday at Goodwill. Figured the nice leather strap that was on it was worth the $7 I paid for it. Definitely needs a CLA. The winder mechanism works about every other time. I have to tap the shutter release button to jiggle something inside to make it work. The mechanism is just a hair sticky. The shutter seems to be working fine, the focus is smooth and the glass is clean. I need to figure out how to take of the top cover and clean it.

I've owned one and it's like a few other Petri's I've owned. The ergonomics, looks, and design are very pleasing, but the build quality is not too durable. That said, it can make a very nice collectible if you get one that is working or you want to have it repaired. I believe they had a model with a faster lens too - quite sought after by collectors and such.

Petri had a certain sense of design acumen; they made nice use of color engraving and fine aspects of metal work to make pleasing SLR's, lenses, rangefinders, etc. Petris feel nice to use and carry around and, like I said, they look good (and perform optically pretty well). Their contemporaries a the time such as Nikon and Pentax seemed to focus more on engineering high-reliability and have endured today because of it.
