Permanently attaching Hasselblad strap lugs to 500 C/M?

Has anybody had any success - or even tried - to permanently attach the Hasselblad strap lugs to a 500 C/M camera?

I'm looking to buy a strap for the Hasselblad, but I really don't like any of the options that I see - the ones with Hasselblad lugs already in place.

I think I would like to semi-permanently (at least so that it never falls off) attach the lugs to the 500 body, that way I can clip on and unclip my strap as I see fit...

Any recommendations before I buy the lugs and strap?

These are the lugs that I am talking about, as well as the particular strap model that I want (with two swivel claw clasps).

I was thinking about making a custom leather strap, and having the lugs permanently attached to the camera strap... But I think I would prefer the clip method instead of the Hasselblad lugs method to attaching a camera strap.

Any suggestions?

I've incorrectly fixed the strap lugs on occasion with near disaster results, but once properly placed they don't come off easily at all.

Do you mean

permanently attaching the metal strap ends to the camera body lugs,

or permanently attaching a strap to the metal strap ends?

Properly mounted Hasselblad straps are securely and semipermanently mounted to the camera body. To cobble a workaround would be folly and fool hardy.

In essence, those ends are clips, they're as easy to attach and remove from the body as any other "clip" sort of device.
Just have them permanently attached to whatever strap you'd like. If you don't want to attach them permanently, you can use a small loop of narrow webbing with a buckle in it to be an intermediate piece between the clips and the strap. Sort of like the leather portion of the strap you've pictured. There are many straps made this way.

This was something I was going to do for a long time, but I couldn't find a Hasselblad strap that was suitably cheap to harvest the ends off of. I ended up getting a Hasselblad medium width web strap.

Hasselblad strap lugs do not fall off. The strap may break, but then any strap may break. I have never had a Hasselblad strap break.

I meant to permanently attach the Hasselblad strap lugs to the camera, so I could unclip the strap on and off with the metal clips that come with the strap - the gold color clips.

I I suppose I could just order a custom strap and have the Hasselblad lugs sewed onto the strap, and then just take it off whenever... I wasn't certain how securely the Hasselblad lugs attached.

The lugs are plenty secure enough, though I'm sure someone has broken them. I don't think it would be a problem unless you're putting them on and off a few times a day.

An alternative might be the approach used by Gordy, scroll down in this page;

I'd suggest a short 'adapter' loop like the one Domke uses. Here's a picture but may not be detailed enough. I didn't look further to see if they have the short ends separately. There may be a used one or two on the bay.
All you would need is to replace the split rings with the Hasselblad clips. No sewing, glueing welding or other handyman skills needed.

Thanks for the tips, guys!

I think I'm going to go the route of purchasing the strap directly from the buyer (to which she already agreed) without the metal hooks, and have her attach the Hasselblad clips directly.
