It's amazing who you see in the street. I was in Melbourne for one afternoon, job hunting, and as I was waiting at the lights at the corner of Lygon St and Victoria Parade I saw Marc Morel and Christine crossing the road. I yelled out to them but I was on my motorbike and I'm not sure they realised who it was. Yes, it was me Marc. I'm going to be moving back to Geelong from Canberra, sometime within the next 3 months, so I'll be able to join in on Melbourne get togethers again.

Mike, I was just thinking that we hadn't heard from you on APUG for a while, and here you are. Yes, let's organise a welcome back meet and shoot.

We missed you!
We've been absolutely starved of your comical routine...like this one, way back when... you really pulled out all the stops to snap an inquisitive Great Otway Black Snail.
Come back! Come back! (And bring the Vulgaris Tachiharasaurus with you!)

My comical routine two weeks ago will have you groaning. I went to the public darkroom and was going to process 6 sheets of 8x10 B&W that I had shot of the War Memorial. Unfortunately there were 2 others wanting to use the darkroom as well and the trays had been set up from right to left, instead of left to right as I was used to, and in the dark I forgot and put the sheets in the water bath first and then into the fixer. So I got 6 sheets of lovely clear acetate. It has taught me never to rush and always to check the trays layout first. I now have to reshoot the building before I move back to Geelong.

Will be good to have you back, Mike. At least, we will have a chance to get proper 8x10 group shots again from future meetings. I am in for a welcome back meeting.

So were the trays labelled and you couldn't read the labels in the dark? Or how else can you tell, by the taste?

Call me radical - but what do people think about a trip to Williamstown in the second half of September then? There are some fab things to photograph there, especially with that giant partially-constructed warship there at the moment. Also, lots of cute Victorian architecture, grand seascapes and city skyline views, HMS Castlemaine, etc etc. Plus proximity to coffee AND fish and chips... that is all

Urban, easy to get to, far more interesting than the botanical gardens.

Marc!

What about this: Tall Ship Festival in Williamstown from 6-15 September. I went there 3 years ago in the early morning and got some stunning shots before the tourists arrived. Here is the web site: http://www.melbournetallships2013.yachting.org.au/. I will be there anyway every day. Best would be to catch the tall ships arriving in the port or departing from the port, which would suggest meeting on either Friday, 6 September, or Sunday, 15 September. Maybe the 15th suits all of you voting for the first or second half of September, respectively. Don't forget your wide angle lens for the tall ships at the pier. I mostly used a 45mm lens for 6x7.

Haha, Marc, that's really a coincidence. I did not read your post before I posted my suggestion. As an additional bonus, the whole Sea Shepard fleet is currently docked at the Williamstown pier. Not sure if they are still there in September. The war ship Marc is talking about is the HMAS Canberra, the largest ship of the Australian navy. It will be there until February 2014.

I am in. Hopefully, we can find out details of the ships' departures closer to the 15th. Then we can schedule the meeting appropriately. At this moment, I would suggest an early time (I dare to say 8am) to avoid the day tourists.
