I have the chance to buy one of these meters for a very low price at a thrift store, but it has one big problem - it has no cap for the battery compartment.
It appears to be the model that takes 3 LR44 batteries.
Any suggestion where I might obtain a replacement for the missing cap?

Both good suggestions.
Apparently, the cap has a collar attached to it:

Eric wasn't able to help me, but it looks like George Milton at Quality Light Metric will be able to help.
I took a chance and purchased the meter this morning - case and all. It is almost pristine.

So George Milton at Quality Light Metric really came through for me.
I purchased a used battery cap from him (at a great price), he sent it through the mail, and I now have a functioning spotmeter that seems to correlate with my Gossen Digisix F.

Matt, great to hear that Mr. Milton was able to come through with a battery compartment cover. QLM is certainly a real asset to the photography community. Enjoy your meter.

Good night Matt, I had the same problem. Can you tell me, please, how you resolved?

He got it from George Milton at Quality Light Metric, 7095 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90028 Telephone +1-323-467-2265. He does not have a website.

I live a little away from California  I would like to know how he solved the problem. Does a battery cap of a K1000 fit?

The battery cap was for a spot meter, not a camera.

thanxs.
I have little experience in this forum  and this is precisely my problem. I thought I didn't need to open a new topic.

Mr. Milton helped me in precisely the way that Sirius described.
He works on a lot of meters, and no doubt receives some that turn out to be not worth repairing. From those, he is able to harvest parts, which is where my replacement battery cap came from.
The battery cap for the meter is of a somewhat unusual configuration, so I would be surprised if you are able to find a replacement that originally came from something else.
By the way, welcome to Photrio.

George Milton is the man for light meters! He calibrated my Pentax Spot Meter - the analog version - got the tiny light illuminating the internal meter scale working, and had it back in my hands quickly. Highly recommended!
