After...well...too long of a story to tell I've found myself in possession of a Pentax 645N and a couple of lenses.
I have an event coming up in a few weeks(family event, but a decently big deal) where I usually will light it using a few strategically placed Quantum T5D-R units on stands. I run these bare bulb behind an umbrella, and they do the job and I've been quite happy with the outcome.
I've done full manual flash before, usually using my Norman LH2000 lights on stands, but aside from the size/trip hazard etc of dealing with power packs in my in-law's living room, plus the fact that some photos are stationary and some aren't, being able to do TTL with the Quantums is a game changer.
For practical reasons I usually shoot mixed film and digital. Using a Quantum Co-Pilot on my DSLR gets me iTTL(w/pre-flash) with Freewire receivers on T5Drs, and I was actually really pleased at how well it all worked using plain "film" TTL flash with an FW9T and QF-12 cable connecting it to an F4. I kind of had things working with my Hassy 500C using the Freewires as just plain radio triggers, but it got a little wonky and my lighting ratios were all over the place.
I have a few weeks to sort this out, and I actually now have a TTL capable Hassy body(553ELX, plus actually a 555ELD on the way...) and do have the cable that will let me tie that either directly to Q-flash or presumably to an FW9T/FW10TR and have that all work. Obviously I'll play with that.
With that said, given what's going on, autofocus+16 shots on a roll is looking REALLY appealing as a case for using the 645N instead of the Hasselblad in this particular situation.
I'm not totally without flash for the 645N, as I did just do some digging and have a Metz SCA 3701 adapter plus a handful of flashes it should work with(45CL4, 70 MZ-5, 76 MZ-5) so I can use that and forget the studios in a pinch, but obviously I'd love to tie into the lights I'm already going to the trouble to set up.
Soo...does anyone know if a Q-cable for the Quantum Q-flash Ts exists? I can't seem to find it listed in my reference material, but given how popular the Pentax MF stuff, at least, was with the wedding guys, I can't imagine it DOESN'T exist. If anyone knows a number, I can go hunting...
