Pentax Spot Meter getting dim

I have a 1degree Pentax Spot Meter. I bought it new many years ago and haven’t used it for auite a while. Using it indoors or in the shade and everything is fine. But using it in bright sunlight I cannot read the numbers in the black box. I’ve put in new batteries bit no change. I don’t know of it is my eyes, I’m 82 with slight macular degeneration, or something else. I’m wondering if a foam eyepiece sould help like the ones that are used on professional film and video camers?

Is this the analog or the newer digital version??

It gives me green numbers and dots on a black background when taking a reading

I've seen spotmeters where some parts of the digital display don't work

I Mcgivered a foam eyepiece for my meter and it seems to me I can see the numbers better in bright sunlight. So I’ve just ordered a Bluestar eyepiece which hopfulley will solve my problem and let me use my spotmeter outdoors again.

Tbw777-tried your suggestion, it worked a bit, but not really practical. Thanks
and my eye doctor thinks It is because of cataracts although I’m not eligable for the surgery yet. I’ve been experimenting with home made eye cups that do help. The orange one is made bt Bluestargear but it doesn’t fit. They have modified one fot me that fit and I’ll get it soon.
