Hey there,
I recently got a Pentax p30 in the mail from a friend, it isn't new and he had used it before with success. However I've been having trouble getting it to work so I took it to the camera shop today and after much fiddling told me there is a problem with the shutter. As it is not a mechinical shutter and relies on the battery to operate it isn't an easy fix. They suspect it has something to do with the magnets inside being misplaced not allowing the shutter to release. They said it is repairable but will cost me $260 Aus dollars....which I don't have.
Would anyone have any suggestions or knowledge on how to fix this? I think the damage must have occurred in the post as it travelled a long way.
Any help is much appreciated!

Take a look at the service manual http://www.pentax-manuals.com/manuals/service/servicemanuals.htm and decide if you want to try it yourself, use it as a paper weight, or try a different repair service as I think $260 is excessive.
Start with fresh batteries and clean the battery contacts in the camera before proceeding with any repair attempts.
