A friend just phoned to ask if I could help him repair his MX. The meter died. Anyone have a similar occurance who might like to lend some advice on a fix?
Start with the battery case. I've only had one MX meter die and that was due to a loose connection. The bottom plate should be relatively simple to remove, although having the correct JIS cross-point screwdriver would make life easier.
You can download the MX service manual from Mark Roberts' site: Dead Link Removed
I guess the ME and MX are getting into the 25 - 30 year old range so maybe some of the electronic components may be ready to give up the ghost.
I bought a well used but perfectly functional MX last year on a whim. Worked fine.
A few weeks back, no meter function at all. Hmmm. Checked battery, no problems there. In the end, the battery spring arm in the battery chamber was found to be a little slack. I carefully hooked it and pulled it away from the body (maybe 0.5mm) and hey presto, meter was again pefect.
