I have a few Pentax ME, ME SUPER lost slow speed control, despite the looked clean and new. The display shows the speed correctly but the shutter just snaped without control .
Is it a common problem? What should I look into ?

Do you know what shutter speed it's actually is? Perhaps 1/2000 by any chance?

I was given one of those for free. Looked great but didn't work anymore. I kept it for the lens alone. Hopefully, I'll have a similar lucky find with the more reliable no-nonsense MX model instead.

The ME and ME Super will shoot at the mechanical speed (1/125) without power. So what's probably happening is that there is enough electrical continuity in the system for the meter to work, the LEDs in the viewfinder give an accurate reading, but when the shutter is fired, something gets interrupted and the camera is not able to govern the speed of the shutter. It's also possible that the electromagnet that holds the closing curtain has failed.

Is the behavior intermittent or does it happen consistently? Are there any speeds that sound like they work properly?
