I just finished the first roll of film on a new-to-me Pentax KX and went to rewind the film. I depressed the film rewind release button and expected it to stay depressed but it would not. So I held the button in with my finger and rewound the film. Once I'd removed the film from the camera, I cocked the shutter and fired it then attempted to depress the button again. This time it stayed depressed and popped back out once I'd fired the shutter and re-cocked it. I've done this a handful of times and the button seems to behave consistently in this way now.

It's not clear to me why the button would not stay in after I'd hit the end of the roll and attempted to rewind the film the first time. I've never experienced this behavior with any of the Nikon F* cameras I own that have a similar rewind release button on the bottom of the camera, so I'm wondering if there is something defective with the KX or if this is somehow normal behavior.

The latch is just a spring loaded lever that slips into the groove on the lever. Very likely to need just a touch of naptha or oil.
3in1 is too heavy, I'd just go with the naptha it's not like it would need to be oiled.

FWIW The lever is right next to the RW button under the bottom plate.
