Hello,

I have a problem with my pentax digital spotmeter, the internal battery connection (at the far end of the battery housing) is loose and has to be fixed.

I have found two screws next to the battery cover, one more behind the serial number plate, but I still can't open it up. The cover is just a bit free.

Can you help me disassemble this meter ?

Thank you !

Marc,

I'd recommend that you have it serviced by Pentax directly. It's an expensive meter and if you accidentally miss putting something back into place properly... you could render the meter useless.

It'll probably not cost you all that much to repair in the first place if it's just a loose connection.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Cheers

Or call Richard Ritter: 802-365-7807 and see if he can do it. I second the notion of not doing it yourself if you have no experience with working on these meters.

I had a similar problemwith mine and Richard fixed it in an hour. Like Bruce, I recommend Richard or, if you are on the West Coast and in a hurry, Quality Light Metrics in LA.

I'm noteven sure that Pentax actually does repairs anymore ... they might but not sure.

Bruce, Ted,

I would also have recommended Richard but Marc lives in France.

You could be right, Ted... they may not do repairs anymore but I would imagine/hope they would have a technician whom they send folks to with their broken down cameras/equipment. But...

Cheers

I wouldn't think that fixing the battery housing would be that risky. You have to remove the eyepiece. I don't have a meter in front of me, but it seems as though you unscrew the focus adjust and then with a spanner or needle nose plyers you remove the retaining ring below the adjuster. Something like that. Don't force anything. After that, the cover peels off. Good luck.

Thank you all for your advice and comments.

I've had an exchange of emails with a fellow Apuger form Finland, and he suggested the same as Loose Gravel.
The only point is to unlock the eyepiece retaining ring, with a suited wrench or nose plyers, and then the cover opens up.

The fix, once open is just about glueing or taping the loose connector, and can be done quickly.
Having it repaired by a repairman would take a long time over here, and this meter is so helpful !

I'll update this thread later.

Cheers,

Marc

Pentax digital spotmeter disassembled and repaired

I finally managed to open up the Pentax digital spotmeter.
One screw behind the serial number plate, unscrew the eyepiece (need a special plyer for this), one clip at the top of the casing, and it's done...

I glued back the loose battery connection with a few drops of superglue, and the meter is now back to life.

Thanks to all,

Marc
