The way the wooden grip is offset (much forward than the image plane in the horizontal axis), will help restraining the vertical movement/shock of the mirror.

As you said... Pentax knew what they were doing. However it would be great that they made the wooden grip a required accessory, not optional...

I almost bought a Pentax 6X7 some years back, but I could not see the full viewfinder due to my glasses. Do any other glasses-wearers have this problem or should I revisit this camera? Thanks in advance.

I just saw your question, and I'll answer l like this. Before I retired as a professional photographer I was using a Pentax 6x7, TTL pentaprism. I wore glasses at the time and never had a problem. Most of the time I had the beast mounted on a Gitzo tripod. I. had the Pentax wooden handle mounted, but frankly trying to shoot handheld, unless outdoors in sunlight, was never a really good option. Again wearing glasses with the 6x7 viewfinder was not a problem.
