Pentax 67 power problem

I recently purchased a Pentax 67 online and the body looks in really great condition however I HAVE NO POWER. The battery check light does not go on and the battery is empty according to the TTL Prism. MLU button does nothing and the mirror is down (i.e. not stuck). Before you ask I have replaced the battery with a new one, I have also tested the battery with multimeter (5.8V - OK). I tested the terminals connecting to the prism and cant see any voltage. The battery terminals are super clean and the battery is getting a good connection. Does anyone have any ideas before I have to fork out $$$ for the repair shop??

All I can suggest is that you return it (if it was represented as being in working condition).

Battery is upside down in the holder? Ok that's too obvious. Are you sure the battery is tight in the holder and not loose? Maybe try putting in some aluminum foil to take up some space and make the connection tighter. Just be sure to put the foil in a place where it won't short the terminals.

From what you wrote, it sounds like you have the instruction manual. Even though the mirror is in the down position, have you tried removing the battery and releasing the safety device by "pushing the safety device release button with a pointed object" and, then, replacing the battery and "press the shutter button for one blank exposure"? With what you have already tried, this would exhaust all the possibilities I can think of that would not involve sending it back or having it repaired.

I had a friend who had a similar problem, and we figured out an odd little quirk about Pentax 67s. Check the batteries carefully to see if they have plastic wrapping around the sides, leaving metal exposed only on the top and bottom. If that is the case, take an exacto knife or other sharp implement and cut off the plastic wrapping. Apparently the contacts on 67s are closer to the sides of the batteries, and the plastic will prevent power from flowing. Hope that helps, please give us an update.
