My Pentax 645 is making a whirring sound after I trip the shutter. I just put in fresh batteries and I test fire the shutter at all speeds at leat once a month to keep it loose. I contacted Pentax Canada and they don't service these cameras anymore. I would hate to give it up and I don't have enough money to get an alternative right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A replacement body, when in stock, and not an N or N II, from KEH is approx $150 plus shipping, taxes, etc. A service is going to be al least half that, maybe more.
I just contacted Pentax Canada about my 645N and they said no problem, send it in. I would imagine that it could be lack of spares for the 645. I know that revered Pentax repairman Eric Hendrickson (pentaxs.com) says he can no longer work on the 645 (only the 645N/NII).
Oh yeah, and I agree that a replacement body is probably the way to go. I fried my 645N and in the end just replaced it with a new camera (NII) as I couldn't imagine the repair being worth it.
I have used the repair service at Camtech in Hamilton for 30 years. Roger has yet to fail me. He services my Contax 645's Dead Link Removed
Highly recommended.
