Well, what do you need? Circular fisheye or full frame fisheye? The 8mm makes a circle on your film while the 16mm makes a full rectangle. The Peleng has a lot of flare and ghosting but is a fun lens. I've had an 8mm f/3.5 Peleng for a long time but only use it occasionally.

I have a friend who used to shoot with the Zenitar, she only got 6x4 prints from a local minilab but they seemed fine, perhaps a little soft around the edges at 2.8. The lens comes with some rear filters in different colours and also a UV filter. I'm not sure if the lens actually needs these in the way you need them for the 16mm Nikkor.

Most lenses on the market, incl. the Fisheye Zenitar, showing an soft image at the corner. Compared for the money, the Russian F-Zenitar MC 2,8/16mm is an excellent fisheye lens, available for almost any bayonet mounts. I am using it on my Contax RTS III for many years, and now also with adaptor, on my Canon 5DMkII.

Cheers

In the 8mm Peleng you need a rear filter to achive focus wide open so it is part of the optical formula but I'm not sure about the 16mm Zenitar.

I once had the Zenitar and found it excellent.
Compared to the 16mm Zeiss F-Distagon fisheye, which I kept, it was slightly sharper in the center, (very) slightly softer in the corners (these differences only being noticable when nitpicking) and a tiny bit less coverage (if the Zeiss is really 16mm, then the Zenitar might be 16.5 mm). Also, good colours and pretty good flare resistance. In restrospect, I should have kept it.

While it theoretically needs the rear filters to be in place for best performance, I didn't notice any difference without.
