Hi

My bottle of PEC-12 is finished. I can get one from B&H for sure.

I want to know if rubbing alcohol or peroxyde can do the job i.e. cleaning negatives?

Regards

Normand

I use 91% Isopropyl Alcohol on a microfiber to clean negatives. I never liked Pec-12 much. My lazy alternative is to just breathe heavily on the negative then wipe once with a microfiber. I actually do that first, then hit it with alcohol if it needs it.

PEC-12 leaves a lot of residue behind which is complete opposite to their claims, spray it on a piece of clear plastic or glass and wait for it to dry and angle it in the light and you can see it.

What PEC-12 does superbly is remove sticky residue left behind from tape etc. I just picked up an 8x10 enlarger from a lab that used damned
masking tape all over the place. Obviously, one can't just grab a can of something like acetone that would attack paint too. So I use citrus
solvent to do most of the softening of the old tape, then resort to more expensive PEC for the final cleanup. I also often use when needing to
remove tape residue from neg carrier glass of when taping film masks to other sheets of film. Alas, even I can't avoid tape all the time!

Lab grade (99.99+ %) methyl alcohol is very effective. But it's also very expensive.
