Hi,

My trusty 1000S w/ the PD prism finder started started acting up a few days ago. It didn't seem to want to go more than one stop below dead center. Now it's stuck smack dab in the middle. Fresh battery, (I'll go try another new battery), dial on the body is set correctly, contacts are perfect, lens is attached to the body and meter. I've had the meter and lens off, put it all back together and it's still stuck on center LED when I press the meter button.

I've searched around for similar problems and didn't readily come upon any. I'm hoping someone here will have some insight.

Cheers,

Randy

It was in fact the battery. I'd just replaced it last weekend, but it must have been an old cell.

I'll keep this thread alive for other peoples' sake in case they run into the same issue.

Whew!

I'm glad it's O.K for you but my tip is get yourself an inexpensive digital multi-meter and check the batterys before you fit themhttp://www.amazon.com/Home-Decor-DT...1397922639&sr=1-3&keywords=digital+multimeter which I find worth it's weight in gold for checking battery voltage, fuses , continuity in flash leads and hundreds of electrical applications for both A/C and DC currents.

I'm an after work mechanic (old 70s Porsche, Triumph m/c and a glitchy BMW). My multimeter is worth its weight in gold. I just made a bad assumption that the battery was still good being that it was in the camera for just a week. Boo.

That's your first lesson, don't trust batteries:smile: , I once knew a guy who worked for a company called Sound Attenuators Ltd. who were commissioned by the Royal Navy to do the sound and vibration tests on the three month shakedown cruise of a new nuclear submarine under The Polar Ice Cap and what do you know when they wanted to start the tests they found the batteries in their measuring instruments were flat and they had no spares, so they had to complete the shakedown cruise then go back for another three months and do it again. God only knows what it must have cost the taxpayer.

This is why I spent the hefty sum of $5 on a multi meter at Harbor Freight years ago. Between camera batteries, light meter batteries, portable music devices, etc it has been a wonderful tool. Now I no longer guess about those AA batteries rolling around in the kitchen drawer. I pull out the old tester and know in a few seconds whether to charge it, keep it, or pitch it.

This side of the pond Lowe's and Home Despot and I'm sure other big box stores sell digital VOMs for about $20.00. Don't leave home without one~!

The link I gave was AMAZON U.S.A and the multi meter was only $4.80.
