Paypal Policy Change

A recent change in policy at paypal includes:
"We’re changing how we treat refunds. If you refund (partially or fully) a transaction to a buyer or a donation to a donor, there are no fees to make the refund, but the fees you originally paid as the seller will not be returned to you."

You should be aware of this if you accept returns.

If you Paypal's services twice - once to receive the sale funds, and secondly to refund those funds, it makes sense that they should be able to keep a single fee.

KEH is buyer unfriendly. If they send me shit It would be for me to pay the overseas return shipping.

i wonder how long it will take for sellers, assuming they can, to charge the fee to the buyer if they return the merchandise.

It's no-win for the seller. If you pass on those fees to the buyer, they are more likely to claim defective or not-as-described.

I have never expected to be reimbursed the credit card transaction fees, and as far as I know, even 5 or 10 years ago, I was never reinbursed credit card fees. Im confused, is this a new policy ?

It is a new policy. In the past, when you refunded all or part of a payment, the associated fees were also refunded. Just as a cc fee is refunded.

I can't really see what's wrong here. You've used PayPal's services and are correctly charged for them.

The problem is eBay's increasing tendency to side with buyers who claim items are damaged or defective when they are not.

I am not much of a seller....but when I do, I say "no returns". I also take lots of photos of the item before I pack it...photograph the packaging as I pack it....and the final bag/box in the condition that I took it to the post office. The one occasion a buyer tried it on....eBay actually sided with me.

I am a seller on ebay and I also have paypal as a payment gateway on my own site. In the last 5 years I have never had a problem with a customer asking for a refund or trying it on.

98% of people are honest and easy to deal with. The other 2% can be spotted a mile off (with a little experience).

I don't understand why there can be a negative attitude to paypal. They provide a very good financial service. If you don't like the way they do business then try some other provider.

I think you will be left wanting.

I refunded a transaction through Paypal not long ago, they gave the buyer a full refund, it still cost me the original transaction fee. I'm not happy about it, but it is now considered part of the cost of doing business. My prices have gone up accordingly.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I guess I just expected I was never refunded the fees.
