Read this morning the news of the death of photographer Paul Ickovic, a name that was new to me.

He seemed like quite the character.

Obituary in The Guardian:

Obituary in The New York Times (for subscribers):

His website:

One Thing Leads to Another. I am a curious animal. Why photography? For one it gives me the excuse to be anywhere anytime. That’s my job. The only continuous, consistent compass in my life. I am not interested in stories with a beginning and an end. I prefer the ambiguous terrain that sparks an emotion. I wonder what came before and after I enter the scene and trip the shutter. I don’t want to be living on a chess board analyzing my every move. Spontaneity and impulse are everything. Poker is more my game. Risk and chance whet my appetite, and that is how I extract nourishment. -- Paul Ickovic

Thanks for sharing the link. I'd never heard of Paul Ickovic either, but I like his work.

So many great photographers are overlooked during their lifetime. Ironic that the article mentioned Louis Faurer who mentored Ickovic, as he also didn't get much recognition while alive and died penniless.

Never heard of him before.
I punched his name into Yahoo, clicked on "Images" and the only picture i recognize is the first one 🙂
..........this one
