Paterson tank part help ... and also Durst

I am rebuilding my darkroom.

I decided to start by film development so I picked up some old Paterson System 4 tanks (not the newer SS).
One of the tanks had an old grey cap that was so brittle it fell apart when pressure was put on it.

I have searched around and cannot find where I can just get the cap.
Any ideas ?

Are there any other generic tanks that copied this design and use the same caps ?

Next part is about an old enlarger.
I was given a Durst Laborator 138 ... it was being used in a Pro Lab for decades, so not all the parts are there.
I was told to find:

condensors (I have two Latico 240's)
bulbs
glass plates for carrier

Any info is appreciated.

For the Durst, try Glennview http://www.glennview.com/ Not cheap, but a good source of parts.

For the tank, they're so cheap I'd probably just get another one.

I'll second eddie's suggestion to get another tank. That's if you plan on agitating by inversion, otherwise the stirring rod works fine.

How many tanks do you plan on using at a time? It seems you have more than one already - are all the caps bad?

The nice thing about picking up extra tanks, is that they come with extra reels! If you try to load a Patterson reel that is not completely dry, you can have troubles. So, extra reels are good!

Thanks for the link eddie ... I discovered that once and forgot how to get back to it ... yeah I was hoping for cheaper.

Paul, I have two of the older System 4's ... so I could just use one tank at a time. In the old days I used to develop three to four tanks simultaneously, but these days I think I will just be doing one.
I have 8 reels already.

The PHSC fair is coming up in May, so I will go there and see if I can find some Durst parts.

Durst parts aren't easy to come across in North America. They're still in business, so you may want to drop an email to Italy. If you're willing to wait, do a saved search on ebay. Maybe something will come up. I'd still drop Glennview an email. If you're in a hurry to get going, he may be your best option.

Look on Epay for the condensers, figure $90.00-$150.00 each. Freestyle may have Patterson developing tank parts, look in the darkroom section. Have fun, Steven.

I think I bought the last of 'Allen in Montreal's' spare Latico condensor bits last week.

I too was gifted a 138 somewhat complete. The 200 is nice for 4x5, but 240's just cover more and make a dimmer illumination. For smaller negatives a smaller Latico really is most useful.

I have given up on big diameter bulbs, and use a 200W frosted, with a diffuser made from drafting vellum in the gate from the lamp house. Smaller than 4x5, the vellum is likely not needed.

The glass for the neg carrier could be a challenge to find. My neg carrier has a broken hinge, and I swear one day I am going to open it and drop something.

I will be selling at the PHSC fair in the spring, at a table joint with David White.

We both have too much stuff from people gifting us old darkroom rigs.
I am pretty sure that there are enough parts to make a whole darkroom setup 2x or 3x over.
I have cleaned up a nice Vivitar 356 dichroic to sell, and I think he has a couple more, including one MF rig NIB.

I know there are two or three two reel Paterson tanks with reels in at least one box. I can't remember if they are 4's or the wide funnel version. They are stashed in the attic of the garage since yesterday.
I am working on renovating my workshop, so a lot of stuff had to be shifted to let the drywall work and ceiling tile installation finally be finished.

Think you might be out of luck with the old Paterson. Perhaps a new one or an AP reel/tank kit?
