I purchased a Technal 17x21" press on ebay a couple of months ago. Soon after receiving the platen started not heating evenly. I wonder if parts are still available such as thermastat and platen?

just a guess but it might be Nichrome Wire problems.

I have a technal that only gets hot on only one side. When I took it apart, the asbestos heating element seemed to have split into two pieces. Because of the asbestos, I just put it back together and just use one side to mount 11x14's.

Help is at hand

I have an Ademco Press, I'd guess 50 years old, one of the two heating element/blocks has stopped working. Ademco ceased trading about 10 years ago. Searching the Internet I found a company here in the UK who make and fix Dry mounting presses, while he couldn't help he gave me a suppliers name.

Have a look at this link:
http://www.hawco.co.uk/pdfs/pages/p80.pdf
See the "Flat Plate Mica Heaters. The company was very helpful and suggested these should do the job and the prices are very reasonable. In fact they are quite similar in construction to the Ademco heater pads.

When I rang the guy back to thank him and to tell him the company could help me he then said yes he uses these pads in new presses.

They are made for the UK 230vac but the PDF does say available to order as 115vac. Of course there may well be a US manufacturer/supplier, but a least you now know what to look for
