I had to send my Parallel laser aligner in for a re-calibration, and decided to buy another one to mothball, in talking to the woman at Versalab, the manufacturer, she told me that the demand for the laser aligner has gone up in the last year. Now this might not reflect a general upturn in the film/enlarging market as this is a fairly expensive device and not one that the casual printer is apt to buy, but it might indicate an upturn in the higher end enlarging market. I can only hope.

Can't describe how much time and frustration that tool has saved me. Good to hear the demand is increasing..

It can be used for other things, like aligning a view camera or for horizontal or vertical copying of flat art, and such, can't it? The demand might not be related to enlarging at all.

I had to send my Parallel laser aligner in for a re-calibration...

Which of course brings up the questions - what happened to make it go out of alignment, and how could you tell?

Seriously...I was planning to get one myself, and I'm curious.

It's easy to tell if it's out of alignment. If you rotate the device the projected-reflected dot should stay in the same spot, if the dot moves that means the device is out of alignment. What made it go out I don't know, maybe expansion contraction from temp or humidity changes, I can't be sure. I bought a second one to have a back up and a comparison unti.
