Can anyone recommend a source of photo paper in eastern Canada?
In a recent posting TheFlyingCamera mentioned 2 types of B&W paper that I had never heard of, Foma and Kentmere. His printing results were wonderful.
There is only one shop in my town that stocks B&W materials and he carries Kodak RC paper. My printing is getting predictable/boring and I need a change.
Thanks,
Mike

I can recommend Photoco in the Montreal area but they don't stock either paper. For those you want Freesytle. Look at the top of your screen and when the freestyle ad comes up click on it.

Foma is the new Edu paper. The older stuff was Forte.

Kentmere is the new Arista paper. The older stuff was Ilford.

Shipping isn't excessive. Just avoid UPS.

You can also buy the paper with the Foma or Kemtmere name for more money then the store brand. Hope that makes sense.

The other option is J&C also click on thier ad. But I don't know if they stock Kentmere.

Oh avoid magic bullets-)

Freestyle's house-brand line is confusing. It's all "Arista", with various suffixes, product names, and so on after that, and it's all made by others. The Arista.EDU Ultra line is made by Foma. The Forte stuff was Arista.EDU, with no "Ultra". (There's still a bit of it left in some sizes and varieties, it seems.) There's also Arista II, Arista Premium, and Arista Plus, judging by a quick look at their Web site. I'm not sure who makes most of these, but the descriptions often provide the country of origin, which should be a big clue.

Hi Mike

you may try Mike Rosen , he is listed on Kentmeres site as a dealer, as well as Mike Boylan he represents Macoe product line , He is in toronto 1-888-561-0906, and as well Mike Chen -Eight Elm in Toronto he has a lot of the Forte and other lines.
Did anyone notice how many Mikes were in this post?

I got both the papers I mentioned from Freestyle - just look up their website. The papers I was using were the manufacturer's specific papers, not the Freestyle branded equivalents, because these particular papers are NOT what Freestyle buys from those makers, at least the Foma Fomatone Chamois finish one is not. It is somewhat pricey - $40 USD or thereabouts for a 25 sheet pack of 8x10. But, it is a rather unique combination of surface and color - the paper base is a very warmtone, almost sepia or albumen-looking finish, and the paper has a toothy, fibrous texture. The emulsion is a gloss emulsion, so you can still get rich deep blacks and good contrast. The Kentmere is a neutral bright-white base, with a neutral-to-cold image tone.

Thanks for appreciating my printing - I'm always tickled when someone else thinks I did a good job, as I always feel I have room to improve - one's own worst critic, I guess.
