Anyone had success using paper negatives for making Platinum prints? I have been using RC paper for a while making contact prints, but I just started thinking about how paper negatives might work for platinum printing.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I have not tried paper negs for platinum although I have tried them for salt prints and for me they are simply not a viable (and therefore cheap) way.

I found that the print time was much too long to get some sort of image. I also stripped off the backing and then soaked the neg in water and rubbed the paper off leaving just the front plastic with the image. I got shorter exposures (but still rather long) but more importantly very poor contrast.

So I would say that it can be done but does have - for me - major shortcomings.

I'd guess that it's not too unlikely that RC has UV inhibitors in the coating, which would make it a poor performer for UV sensitive processes.
I have no idea how FB paper does in passing UV, but it's probably not very good.

I've used plenty for salt, brown and cyanotype prints. sun as uv source, north Europe. no problem with
contrast or excessive printing times. almost always rc.

try it and see?
