Which paper of today do I have to use if I want to make a paper negative from a paper positive (as described in "Picture Making with Paper Negatives" from Nowell Ward)?
Could I use Ilford MG RC/FB or Art 300?
Or does this process require much thinner paper?

thank you in advance,
Oliver

The process is: film negative -> paper positive -> paper negative. As W. Mortensen in "The Paper Negative" and N. Ward "Picture Making with Paper Negatives" .

I have made paper negatives from prints it works pretty well, as long as there isn't writing on the back of the paper. use the brightest light possible to make your exposure ( contact print ) I never used to do this but now I do .. take the lens /mount/board off of your enlarger when you are making your exposure, you will need the light. sometimes I like to get my paper wet ( receiving paper too, and squeegee them so they make a good tight bond ) when making my paper negative, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. rc paper is thinner than FB you might have better luck, but still FB will work. I have a stash of single weight paper that I sometimes make my internegative with or I use hand coated ( home made or liquid emulsion ) on thin paper... some Japanese papers are SEE THROUGH just about when waxed so that might also be an option. I also use the electronic thing and wax that paper as well, works great.
have fun!

Thank you John! Do you know of other books related to this process?
I found "Paper Negatives" from C. W. Gibbs - but I haven't seen its content.

Hi Oliver
Nope I don't know of any books written about making paper negatives. there might be something written about the process on alternativephotography.com but I am not sure. The Mortensen book you mentioned is a good resource, also look at some of the posts by NedL here on photrio he is a real wizard when it comes to making and using paper negatives; he just posted this thread recently and it might be helpful to you - https://www.photrio.com/forum/threa...t-paper-negative-process.179238/#post-2344289 ...

have fun
