What paper/ developer combinations do you use to get a hint of colour in your B&W photographs with or without using toners. I have seen photos that look chocolate brown, cream, deep blue black and some with a hint of green. I was looking at some old WW2 photographs taken in egypt that had a gorgeous creamy look, the emulsion on the paper was very thick. Any thoughts?

I did a big print toner comparison several years back. I tried Kodak Selenium, Brown, Sepia, Polytoner and a few Berg blue and green color toners. Of the lot, I really liked Agfa Multicontast fiber paper in a slightly dilute Kodak Polytoner. The color was a light, subtle brown, while it simultaneously darkened the blacks slightly. The print didn't go yellow like it did in the Sepia, nor did it lighten the print too much like brown toner. Just 'nice'.

Regretably neither the Agfa paper nor the Kodak Polytoner can be found anymore. Yet, any of the current "warmtone" papers should react well with print toners. A search will also bring up some homebrew formulas for the Polytoner on the web somewhere.
