PanF at EI 50?!

Well, I've heard it's easy to blow your hilights with it, but I'm gonna try it anyway, shoot a roll and split it half in half in rodinal stand and WD2D+ stand, I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Do you routinely use stand development with your other films? If so, why?

I've never had a problem with blown highlights when using Pan F+. In fact, I have several negatives that show incredible highlight detail! That being said, however, it is a contrasty film and you may need to alter your development accordingly.

I do practice stand development on other films, I find I like the tonal range better and it takes a little bit less experimentation to get the times right for development, if I need more contrast I change that in printing.

WD2D+ is not a stand developer. It contains metol, and from all I've read in these forums, metol developers require fairly frequent agitation to avoid uneven development or "drag" problems. WD2D+ is a fairly slow-acting developer that is designed for frequent, gentle agitation. Just follow the directions. They are pretty specific.

I have not tried PanF+ in Rodinal, but I have tried it in Formulary TFX-2 with intermittent agitation at 3 or 5 minute intervals. It produced good negatives, but the edge effects were pretty extreme with 120 film at about 10x10-inch enlargement. I didn't like the results. I'm sure Rodinal will produce good results, but I can't vouch for the edge effects you will get with this film. Different films behave differently with different developers. You certainly will learn something by trying.

I recently tried a roll of Pan-F in Diafine as per Lex at PN. EI 80, lots of snow and shadows; things couldn't be easier. Just FYI.
