Hello !

I have an Ilford Pan-F to dev and I'm searching for a good time.
I have Ilfosol S and Rodinal, preferate in Ilfosol S. And the mass dev chart, they say Ilfosol S 1+14 6min, but it looks too little ?

Rating the film at box speed, I've been using good old D-76 1+3 for 15 minutes at 20C. I'm happy with the results. It's not the finest grain result you can get with the film, but that hardly matters. Grain is so fine as to be negligible.
 
I love this film at ei25 in perceptol 1:3. Just beautiful negs, no grain and as sharp as a tack.

Both are good developers.

Me, I use Rodinal 1:50 with Pan-F and it's superb. Nice tonal range, great sharpness/acutance. It's a classic combo, and works very well. I'd recommend a try - Rodinal as a developer is great to work with, and as has been said many times, lasts forever and is very economical.

No, it's 1 part Perceptol and 3 parts water. I know, strictly speaking the nomenclature is wrong. In scientific circles, your assessment would be correct, 1 part chemical for a total of 3 parts. In photographic circles the expression 1:x means 1 part of whatever chemical + x parts water. Don't ask me how the convention got started and why it's different for photo chemistry. I don't know. It just is.

No, actually its 1 part perceptol and three parts water. 1:2 works well too, but I am cheap so I use 1:3.

That's the reason I prefer the 1+2 or 1+3 notation: makes it clear you add one part of dev with 2/3 parts of water....

Which is how Ilford (and others) mark it up on the labels/datasheets.

I Third that, this one of my test shots its not great so no comment about my shooting...hahaha and the scanner is not very good but it might give you an idea.

 
I fourth that idea

My best Pan-F developing results were after shooting it at EI 50 and developing it in rodinal 1+50 (11 min/20 C).
 
Beutler developer and 4-6 minutes also gives results similar to Rodinal, with a bit higher acutance.
 
I use Rodinal 1+100 for 14 min. with the usual agitation method. Pan F+ can be a bit contrasty so I've found that rating the film at 25 (I'm using incident metering so sometimes I can just meter a shadow area and rate the film at 50) and cutting back on development and going easy on the agitation (this tends to block up the highlights more with Pan F+ then in other films I've used) really helps to get great easy to print negs.

How old is your Ilfosol-S? This developer suffered from a sudden loss of activity and has been replaced by Ilfosol3 for quite a while.
If your film is important, then either buy some fresh developer or try the Rodinal which keeps much longer than Ilfosol-S. Start with the times that Ilford suggest.
