After years of delay I finally got a shutter speed tester from Yoshida Camera in Japan which works great for my large format lenses. So last night I decided to check the focal plane shutter speeds on my Pentax 67II camera. It's been awhile since I've been out with that camera so had to remove the AE finder to clean the contacts with an eraser to remove the “Perr”error before the shutter would work. However the shutter doesn't trip unless the back door is completely closed. Two small metal bars protrude from the end of the back door and lock the door shut inside the opening mechanism - a bar on the left side of the camera that allows the 2 bars to “unlock.” Keeping the bar depressed will allow the shutter to “load” and trigger. But is hard to keep the bar depressed while fidgeting with the camera and cable release. Does anyone know of a work-around?
Another possible issue became apparent. When I last used this camera on a regular basis I was nearsighted and used prescription eyeglasses glasses for distance and comfortable reading. I have the magnifying eyepiece for the 67II and I may have lost the original eyepiece finder because when I hold up the eyepiece to my eye without glasses it's blurry and when I put reading glasses on its clear. This is the direct opposite when using the Nikon DK-17C which I replaced on my F6 with the DK-17C -3 diopter viewfinder lens. I later bought a 2d F6 body from Japan and the previous owner apparently had the same vision I had at the time because a DK-17C -3 was installed. I may be able to work around the P67 issues with the camera's built-in diopter and may have to purchase a DK-17C 0 for the 2d F6.
Finally, the black leatherette covering is becoming unglued on the back. What's the best was to fix this?
