If this is not the right forum category - - I apologize. (I'm new).
I am looking for opionions about commercial processors for film. One that pops up a lot is called "The Darkroom." Anyone have good/bad experience with them.
"The Darkroom" is one of the marketing initiatives of Swan Photo Labs in San Clemente, a bit more than two miles from my home. Another Swan persona is "Ilford Lab USA." I've occasionally used Swan for color, and it's done credible work. Any specific questions / film types you're interested in?
I use The Darkroom when I have a lot to do and little time. I have nothing but good to say about them, quick service, good communication. Their price includes a standard scan, which works well if you are posting online, with larger scans available for a price.
I enjoy using their pre-paid-postage envelopes. Even though I know the cost of postage is included in the price of development, being able to drop the envelop in the mail at home or while traveling without having to go the the post office is very convenient. Their scans, like most consumer scans, tend to have increased contrast, saturation and contrast but are of generally good quality. Slides are still mounted. Turnaround time, even when mailing to-from the East Coast is reasonable.
I've sent both B&W and color film to Swan Photo for D&P. I've never been disappointed. They make nice prints and the turn around time is quite reasonable. I would not hesitate to send them work....in fact, they would be my first choice.
Don't know if you live in the Phoenix area, but there are at least one full lab, Tempe Camera, and a good minilab at Wilson's, 2 locations, the lab is at the Scottsdale location, but you can drop and pick up at the Phoenix location. There are labs in Tucson, have not tired but may be worth if you live in the Tucson area. In the Flagstaff area Hidden Light.
